GOLGI APPARATUS vs. TERMINALS

SIMILARITIES!

The function of the golgi apparatus is to differentiate and package macromolecules to be transported else where in the cell. This is similar to the function of terminals of an airport, which is to separate the different groups of people going on board the plane to be “transported” elsewhere.

Hence, both are similar in the sense that both of them are for differentiating molecules/humans to where they should be transported.

DIFFERENCES!

One difference is that the terminals can be split into two parts - the arrival hall and the departure hall. However, the golgi apparatus only has the 'departure hall' - it differentiates and packages macromolecules to be brought out of the cell, and not into the cell.

Another difference is that the golgi apparatus is located quite near to the nucleus, but the terminals are not located near the control tower at all.

Also, the golgi apparatus only takes up a small part of the cell, but the terminals occupy one of the biggest spaces in an airport.
