SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM vs. TRAVELLATORSSIMILARITIES! One of the functions of the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (smooth ER) is to transport proteins made by the ribosomes to their proper locations in the cell. This is similar to the travellator, which transports people from one place to another. Also, the smooth ER appears smooth by electron microscopy. This is similar the travelators which are present to reduce the time and energy required to move towards the gates and to ensure that people have a smooth journey there. DIFFERENCES! One of the functions of the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum is to transport the proteins made by the ribosomes to their proper locations in the cell. However, the travellator does not transport the information from the PA system, which is what the ribosomes were previously compared to. Another difference is that the smooth endoplasmic reticulum only transports proteins, but the travellators transport many different kinds of objects, ranging from humans to baggage and trolleys. Also, the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum is mainly found near the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum, Ribosomes and Nucleus of the cell while the travellators are found in all over the airport. |
