NUCLEUS vs. CONTROL TOWERSIMILARITIES! A nucleus is similar to the control tower of the airport as the function of the nucleus in a cell is to regulate all cell activities, just like the control tower of the airport. It directs aircrafts on the ground and in the air to prevent collisions, organize and expedite the flow of traffic, and to provide information and other support for pilots. Hence, the control tower of the airport plays a very important role in order for the airport to function well. On top of that, the nucleus holds the genetic information of the cell, while the control tower holds all the information for the airport to function (such as flight data). This is similar to the role of the nucleus in a eukaryotic cell whereby the nucleus oversees all the activities in the cell. DIFFERENCES! However, there are also ways in which the nucleus is different from a control tower. (see 'RIBOSOMES vs. PA SYSTEMS')One such way is that the nucleus produces the ribosomes, but the control tower does not produce the PA system, which is what the ribosomes are compared to. Another way is that while the nucleus oversees EVERYTHING that happens inside the cell, the control system does not control everything that happens in the airport. For example, the control tower does not oversee the disposal of waste, nor does it control the way food is produced in the food court. |
